"I look down at the people and I think about how everybody's got problems. Maybe not a secret government agency on their ass, but, you know... problems. And if I sit up here long enough, I start to feel like I'm just one of those people... a regular girl. ." +++ DA

People Just Don't Get It

I don't know why it affects me when it shouldn't.

I read about an article over at MSN (surely all my pol eco pals are right now raising their eyebrows at why I'm even reading news from MSN) about Condaleeza Rice, Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie being in one HIV/AIDS event of the United Nations. The article seem to imply that Hollywood actors are NOT at all affected by issues of this world and are only after the publicity they get out of promoting issues or else they run for government. Whereas, politicians and government officials are trying so hard to look as glamorous as Hollywood actors in order to gain more publicity... And maybe this time around get the presidency. It appears that for the writer and the editor of the article, there is a very defined line between Hollywood issues (what actors ought to be concerned about) and government (what the government should be doing). It also stereotypes actors as senseless, dumb, and lazy dimwits who only care about themselves.

While it is a given that politicians and actors need the publicity, that doesn't undermine the fact that these ARE people. As such, they can be affected by issues like regular normal people. And like normal people, they have a right to do as they want with their lives. If that means using their fame and fortune to let people know more about certain issues, then so be it! If it means using their names and having their pictures taken in events as if promoting brands, then that's their prerogative. There's nothing wrong with using the resources in promoting your cause. There's definitely nothing wrong with actors - weather educated or not - asking for help on issues they feel strongly about.

If these politicians are acting like Hollywood actors in trying to promote their agenda, then that's their call.

It's hightime MSN and its editors learn that: first, Hollywood actors are normal people and are affected by normal issues. Second, not all of them are dumb. Third, efficiency is making use of the scarce resources available to you in order to achieve your goal in the fastest time possible. Fourth, there are a lot of problems in this world already. People should just try focusing their resources on helping in solving them rather than bashing people who are trying to do something about it. If you don't want to help, then just shut up and leave those who are at least trying to help solve this world's problems alone.
