The Passion of the Christ

I have wanted to watch this movie ever since I got emails regarding the reviews done on it mainly because I don’t like judging something based on someone else’s judgment… except when I trust that person to have a mind of his/her own and we share more or less the same POV. So I went to Eastwood with my mom to watch this top grossing Mel Gibson Movie.

I have very few things to say since I believe the positive reviews on are right on target.

First, it was not really anti-semitic as critics said it was. I mean, let’s face it, Jesus was a Jewish and he was condemned to death. History has presented several people who were also condemned to death by their own nations. No one said they were anti-(whatever that nation is). Mel Gibson wanted to put into film how one Man opted to die for mankind and he was successful.

And here’s my second observation, it was a well researched film. As bloody as it was, the filmmaker really looked for the things used by the Roman Empire at the Scourging at the Pillar and even the crowing with thorns. This is the first Jesus Christ movie I watched that showed how they had to break His arm in order for his other hand to fit the hole for the nail and indeed, that was what happened in history.

Third, I liked the way that Mary was portrayed. She didn’t say much and if you read her life, she really doesn’t say much.

The parts I cried were mostly the mother-and-Son scenes the only exception is the scourging part. It was undoubtedly the most gruesome scene to watch because of all the types of devices used by the Romans at that time as punishment.

Judgment Day

Yesterday was judgment day for all of us. Out of 37 people, only 23 passed the whole assessment programme.

The bad thing about it was we were asked to wait for a long, long time just to call on us one-by-one and inform us of our personal status. Out of the 16 people they called individually, 14 failed and then they distributed our papers and scores at random - for those who passed.

The good thing about it was, eventhough there were smaller groups who would hang out together, the class pulled through to push for a reconsideration of all those who failed to meet the "standard". As of today, I am about to head out to a meeting with everyone and help those who didn't make it study for another exam that they need to take. This exam - theoretical and hands-on will determine whether they can be reconsidered and stay with the company or not. I just hope that a lot of them will make it.
